    Pleasant surprise Ballard custom

My son picked up this Ballard custom refinish with a spare bbl including forearm and sights at the Denver CGCA show. very reasonably. So much so that I was a bit afraid of what kind of a mess we would find.

We took it apart last night and what do we find but it is a numbers matching , throughout (except for the barrel), Ballard Pacific in .45-70! It is done right and is beautiful inside and out.

Barrel is drilled and plugged for a Pacific fore end side screw mount and now mounts from the bottom. Oddly, the side screw hole was breeched by what we must assume was the machining or filing of the barrel flats which initially made me think that it might be the original, but it is an 8 groove, 34" half round, with no markings remaining other than the caliber done more like a Stevens on the side flat, large font, but not in Italic.

    We are thrilled! Wayne

Very nice. Your son might entertain playing the lotto.
