    Red Tail Hawk Having Lunch.

The Wife took these pictures today of a Red Tail Hawk. It had the snake in the tree and then dropped it on the ground where it went down to finish the snake off. The snake is a common garden (Garter) snake in New Hampshire.

I just watched one rip apart a squirrel on the side of the Van Wyck Expressway. It was always cool to see nature outside of the city but I always thought it was awesome that even in the middle of NYC you'll still see predatory birds doing predatory bird stuff.

Years ago my brother brought home a fuzz ball, after taking care of this critter turned out to be a Red Tailed Hawk he name Fierce.....'cause that's what that hawk looked like. One day the hawk was stretching his wings on the clothes pole and the wind was right........ so long bird! He did return once, for a short visit....as to say thanks or good bye never to be seen again. That was back in the early 60's

We have a lot of hawks around here. It is a real blessing to see them up in our trees. Also have a big owl back there. He likes to talk at night. I give him a hoot every now and then and sometimes the owl answers. It is a bit spooky. Loved your wife's pictures.

    Hi Mark,
Good story about the Owl. We have some around our property as well. I called with one for about 10 minutes one night, was quite amusing.

The first shot she took of a Bard Owl down the street from us. The second shot is of a Snowy Owl out at the coastline.

There’s a red tail hawk that hangs around on the storage bldg in my back yard every day.I’ve see him eating moles and snakes and a squirrel once. But,he’s not been able to get the rabbits that breed under the shed.At least as far as I know.
