Think about 40 feet. Note ears are up and head is submissive and he was coming in slow. Still keep a 44 magnum with 255 grain Hard cast Buffalo Bore in case. Once I told him close enough direct but calm he stopped and eventually went back to playing with another bear both enjoying time out of the den when they tend to be a little wobbly.

Dry fish cuts

Glad I have posted with hunting and fishing people as things are noticed I have not thought about. You are exactly right the fish are cut in this way to aid in the drying. It also makes it easy to soak up oil when the dried fish is dipped into it as a part of the meal. Normally seal oil which is vital for energy in the arctic.

hope you at least take the opportunity to visit. Marines are always welcome and if you ever come to Anchorage, first coffee at Dark Horse is on me and reindeer hot dogs. I think you just might not use the return ticket.

Kiana one of the most beautiful village locations in Alaska with amazing hunting and fishing. Friends were done with their other kind of shoot and were teasing about the preferences of time for fishing. The stream is on the property and has a small run of good salmon and also trout. Nome Gold Dredge No.5 was a challenging and rewarding job - promoted to Stern oiler. Grizzly skull before giving to nephew. White Mountain village also a great location and people village.

Hey MO,

Google translate is on the blink, again.

So here goes.

URO is saying that, you live in a wonderful place. He feels "privileged" to see such wonderful pics.

He would really enjoy hunting bear, and hanging the hide in his home. Unfortunately, there are few bear in Spain, and there is no bear hunting. (and that it is against his wife's "religion" to go anywhere it is colder than 0 C/32 Fahrenheit) (hope I am not putting URO in the dog house)

They do have Salmon in Northern Spain, but it costs an arm and a leg. About 6700 Euros. (ouch!) He hopes you enjoy the links, he leaves on his post.

Enjoy!

(Any translation errors are mine.)

This is a great thread, AD. And agree, Alaskan Women rock!

Later, Mark

Fine looking country to play/live in. Alaska Dawg is the movie set from the movie North to Alaska still there in Nome? I expect to float the Yukon River from Bennett Lake to Dawson then to the mouth in, 2014 or 2015. Nome is 90 miles from the river mouth across the ocean inlet or 290 miles if you hung its coast. Should be fun. Have fun and bangaway.

this is down near Ketchikan
fur is better in February anyway. Not a bad thing. Beautiful picture, especially like the cloud line in the distance.

Safe trip. The mouth is challenging for the slow water and many, many mosquito and the difficult number of islands, channels and of course the water is a bit muddy. Perhaps do a pull out and portage to Unalakleet? In any case a good supply of water filters, fire sticks, DEET, and best.
