    I notice lateral lines on the hanging salmon. Are lines cut into salmon for drying/smoking purposes or is there another purpose for those cuts?

    Glad I have posted with hunting and fishing people as things are noticed I have not thought about. You are exactly right the fish are cut in this way to aid in the drying. It also makes it easy to soak up oil when the dried fish is dipped into it as a part of the meal. Normally seal oil which is vital for energy in the arctic.
