So sorry you lost such a good companion. As other's have said, been there, too. It does get better and when it does you'll share funny stories about her and smile your butt off doing so.

Copy, everything that has been said,
I lost my Maddy, April 11 this year, my walking partner every day. She was the best.
I know she still walks with me.

Hey Bayjoe - yes, I feel your pain. Back in 2005, the best bird dog I've ever had was hit by a car on Xmas eve, took him to a 24-hour emergency vet hospital, they stabilized and determined level of injury, and I had to tell them to euthanize him on Christmas Day.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. As I am sitting here with my 12 year old boxer sleeping on my leg. I realize that his time is short. He is blind and those back legs don't want to move him along very well. I think that this might be his last Christmas with me. Faithful to a fault and forever by my side. Dogs are family. My condolences from me and Mosh.
