I never see them in Indiana. Just as well, I don't need the temptation.

Those were beautiful rifles and that's a great example, congratulations!

I have been reading up on them and thought the fluted comb was first variation. But the "B" denotes second and this has a coil main spring. So the thread title is inaccurate. I bought right so no complaints.

Very nice!..............If only that rifle could talk................

Was that a VT gun or NY gun?.

I would only shoot mid range loads in that, too..............

It's a very nice rifle but something's odd. You're quite right that the fluted comb is a feature of the 1st variation and you're correct that the 'B' prefix to the serial number is a feature of the 2nd variation but so is the shape of the forearm wood on your new purchase. I wonder if your rifle has been restocked with a 1st variation stock ? I'd be interested to see a closer look at the top tang area and look at the wood inletting there. I recall that with the introduction of the coil hammer spring in the 2nd variation that the tang is shorter than the 1st variation. Very interesting. Enjoy your new purchase.
