Well you would have enjoyed that one.
Up until we went to Vung Tau. I had to stand watch , patrolling up and down the main deck watching for junks
Getting to close to the ship, and divers swimming to the ship trying to attach underwater explosives to the hull.
And after dark the smoking lamp was out , outside the ship, so snipers wouldn't see the red ambers and pick you off.

I took a 6-month "Float Trip" with the 3rd Bn, 4th Marines (3/4) from August 1972 to March 1973 in WestPac. Good experience for a Missouri boy.

I served on 3 ships during this float trip. I started out on the LPH USS New Orleans, and was transferred to the LPD 5 USS Ogden. I finished the trip on the LST USS Racine. We crossed the equator and I went through the Shellback initiation.

I think I bought the plastic model kit in 1965, age 11.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Klondike_(AD-22)

Sure looked a like the model. Mine had a little electric motor on it and used a clump of Vaseline for the propeller shaft "stuffing box". I used nails to ballast her, looked like a Japanese Godzilla film clip in the bath tub or pool.
