    Adding Iron Sights?

I'll be picking up an XS7Y in 7mm-08 tomorrow. I'll also be picking up whatever the best scope in stock that I can afford as well.

That said, I've never been fond of scopes and really dislike being in a position where I only have the ability to use a scope. I am considering getting a weaver mount ghost ring from XSSights for the rear sight. I am not certain about what to do for the front sight, although I'm thinking that a banded front ramp from N.E.C.G. would work or perhaps an old Mauser ramp.

Has anyone here actually put irons on an X-series rifle? I can find a few posts discussing it as a possibility but nothing more.

My eventual goal is to get it setup as a proper Scout Rifle. And also get a .257 Roberts barrel for it too

    Thanks!

Haven't seen a set yet, but thinkin real hard about havin my gunsmith mount a set of express style sights to my XS7 in .308 just to have a solid backup.

if you set on doing the open sight thing (i do not have a clue as to why)you could mount a "ghost ring" peep sight on your weaver style base and your gunsmith could install a ramp front sight-my "OLD" eyes have no use for open sights anymore-whsk

That's pretty much what I intend to do - get a weaver mount rear & have my local gunsmith add a front ramp to the barrel.

As for why, I hate being dependent upon optics. My eyes aren't the greatest anymore either, but I'd rather be able to use the Mark I optical sight when my scope breaks rather than have to use another rifle or, worse yet, mount yet another scope.

I almost didn't get the Marlin because of having to add the irons but other details made me decide to fix it instead.

I'm just the opposite; I absolutely HATE irons sights on my deer hunting rifles.

For precision shooting, I'll take a quality scope over irons sights any day of week!

i forgot to mention with the marlin "weaver" mounting system you could get a spare scope and rings (after initial sight-in) it could be switched out if you were having scope problems with the primary scope-i took a spare setup with me on a wyoming trip but never needed it-whsk

I just got a Marlin xL7 in .30-06, I have a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 on the way but I like having an iron sight set as well. How did you idea work out.
