Does anyone know if Marlin is producing the X7's. I have been waiting almost a year for a 7mm-08. Any word on what is going on would be helpful. Everyone has been out of stock for a long time. My dealer is trying to get one from a pretty big distributer with no luck.
I spoke to Marlin today and was told that this model in 7mm-08 is still on the production schedule and is currently being shipped. Sounds like good news, I will have to be patient.
I just notice on gallery of guns that the X7 in 270, 30-06, 223, 25-06, and 308 (in youth model) are on their closeout list. What's the deal? I'd think they'd keep them listed if Marlin is making them.
They are still making the X rifles, in fact the stainless steel ones are rolling out right now and it is the first time that they have made those in awhile.
I just got off the phone with Marlin Customer Service/ Parts Dept. I was trying to order some bolt parts for my 25-06 XL7, and the lady told me that they are not making the XL7 guns anymore. They also have no parts in stock, except for the stocks, that was what she told me.. I need an extractor, extractor ball, and spring, as mine flew off into never- never land. Now what do I do, ??. Was just getting ready to leave on my annual deer hunting trip. Guess It will be with my Howa 270, and my Wheatherby .243, instead of the XL7. I was planning on the XL7, and the Howa. If any one has any ideas on where to get some bolt parts, I like to here about them. I just (Tuesday) got the Marlin all sighted in with its new Redfield Revenge scope. Numrich has some but not all parts.
I just got off the phone with Marlin customer support after several minutes of elevator music and they told me that the X rifles were still in production so go figure.
Edit: Not trusting Remington, I called customer support a second time and and got 10 minutes of elevator music asked the same question again to a different person. This time they told me that the X rifles were no longer going to be in production. The stainless models hitting the shelves now must be left over ones. It looks like the Remington 783 is going to replace the X rifles after all.
Thanks Remington for dropping a good product line in favor of your own copy.
I think that the confusion comes from the lovely folks that they hire for customer support that confuse the X-7 rifles with the Remington model 7 rifles. My anger at Remington, which had been sliding down a notch is right back to the top again with the news of them dropping the X rifles for their Big Green clone. Complete Jerks.
I saw yesterday that Buds has the XL7 in stainless steel in .30-06 for less then $300 ! The description doesn't say it's an "X" gun- but the model # is the same as the "X" guns .
The only weak link in the gun is the rather fragile trigger assembly. You can buy a complete spare from Numrich for $28.12.
Everthing else is bulletproof (except the POS trigger guard) or could be made or modified from Remington/Savage/SAKO parts.
Tthe extractor and EJECTOR spring are direct copies of many push feed rifles. Despite all the yowling from the CRF folks (I own 2 CRF model 70s), it's like so many myths that the internet is filled with. How many failures can you document ?
The shroud could be broken if you slammed something into it . S&W uses a lot of MIM parts and I' don't see them coming apart right and left.
If you don't get the trigger, I suggest you compare it to a Mauser Werke sporting rifle (before WW II), a National Match 03' or a New Haven built CRF M70.
All dead simple stupid, easily adjusted to 2 pounds and designed by men who probably could not conceive that a shooter would need a little stick out thinggee to remind him that his finger was on the trigger. At least on the Savage (equally flimsy) it does serve as a first stage. It's a lot of rifle for the money but it a'int no FN Supreme.
I have to agree that I see no reason for "spare" parts ; at least not in my life time . For less then 250$ for the blued version , buy two or three "extras" and you'll have all the parts you probably would never need .
For goodness sakes , a nice Hotel room can cost 250$ -and you pay that for 1 night !
3 !! wow ! I got two X7's and thought that was plenty .......maybe I'd better get me another :eating:
