    New 336 report

With all the controversy about whether Marlin has been improving their products or not, I have been checking out new ones whenever I can at the gunshops I frequent. This week I have looked at 2 336's. One the action seemed very good, it worked without a hitch, sideways upside down and every angle I could come up with working it slowly. The sights appeared to be straight. The problem I found with this rifle was the stock fit. I could get a business card clear to metal on the right side and the left side the gap was bigger, I could visually see the tang. The back of the tang had a small gap between the wood and the metal as it should. You can draw your own conclusion about how that will affect accuracy and how long the stock will last before recoil takes it toll.

The second 336 I looked at had decent wood to metal fit but would lock up when worked slowly upside down. The sights seemed straight and the overall fit and finish was as expected on rifle in it's price range.

    I will keep looking

So, another confirmation that after years of trying lemonington still can't make an average Marlin gun unless by accident.
