hickok45: New Marlin vs Old Marlin

Let's see if this works - my 1st attempt at linking a video.

Saw this last night. I like hickok45. He talks a lot, but I like him.
He REALLY LIKES lever action rifles and Marlins. But like many of our forum members he only owns JMs.

I think he bent over backwards trying not to bash the new Marlin rifle in this video too much,
but for me the mis-matched forearm and buttstock says it all!

Thanks for posting this! I noticed that the Remlin didn't have any checkering which is a big plus. A shooting acquantaince of mine just picked up a new Remlin 1894C (regular carbine). The front sight was canted to the right quite a bit. The rest of the rifle was OK---much like what Hickok45 states in his video. I believe he is sending the rifle back for repair.

He is usually pretty thorough on his review. He also tapp dances around some of the drawbacks to some of the items he reviews, but that keeps in in business! I know when I am looking at a particular gun or cartridge I usually look at Ken Waters Pet loads first and then look at hickok45

    Lightbulb

A very objective review of the rifle. It is what it is. The new rifle operated better than I expected. They still have a way to go with fit and finish. However, it is and always was a "working man or woman's rifle". $850? Nah. I'd buy a Henry for that money. That said, at my age I'm not buying any more firearms, I've sold some of them off for the $$$$. People that know anything want JM Marlins.

But new shooters than intend to take a rifle into the field to hunt that are not interested in a collectible rifle, should consider a Marlin 30-30. Inexpensive. You can get one of their rifles with a 3x9 scope for $399.00. I looked one of those over that a guy had at the range. Not too shabby. It shot well, cycled well, and the man was satisfied with it.

Just ordered myself a copy of "Ken Waters Pet Loads" on Amazon - it's out of stock everywhere else I looked.
    Thanks!

an invaluable resource for reloading, he is very thorough in working up loads no matter what gun or caliber. every load he says is accurate in the calibers I reload for have been true, so it makes my starting point easier.

I wish he'd had an early 1894 to make yet another generation comparison. Excusing a 100+ years of use, you can see that the quality of fit and craftsmanship was much better than the JM Marlins.

My thought is that he is too kind to Remlin.
