    Hey Bobby,

My New Marlin 39A,, that Marlin Customer Service said was made in the First Quarter of 2010,, before the Month of August.

However Mine only has an "M" on the Left Side of The Barrel. Nothing on the Right Side.

Mine is Missing the "J",, so does that mean Mine is only 1/2 a Real Marlin??!!!

Remlin was taking shortcuts and could only stamp M's on some of them. hehehehehehehe!

Just kidding a bit. Is likely just a poor job of stamping by a Remlin trainee.

Here is the mark on my two Marlins - 1894SS is about 1.5 inch from the barrel end and the 336SS is right at the barrel end.

Golfbuddy45 thanks for pointing that spot out. The last Marlin I bought is the 338MX a 2009 vintage. Tomorrow is going to rain and winds up to 40 mile a hour. It sounds like a good day to take the safe queens out for a once over. I'll start with the 338MX, 308XLR, 30 30 Zane Gray, 444S and as soon as I can will go to my sister in-law and pick up the two marlins my brother give me before he passed away. one is a 30 30 RC the other is a 44 mag. it looks like a shorten 336T I believe he bought these in the 50's. The JM stamp would be on them for sure.
My Avatar is my brother John who left me to soon. He was 10 Y/O 1 month older than me. He took me off the Streets of Brooklyn taught me how to handle a rifle and to hunt. For his attention I would always be grateful. Rest in Peace Brother John.

Wow- "308/338" looks like you have a load of toys to play with. Since those marks are hand stamped I would bet they are probably located on the left side within a couple inches where the barrel meets the receiver frame. As you can see in my two one is almost as close as you could get a punch to the receiver frame and the other is almost 1 1/2 inch. It was good to learn about that mark. Even though I was fairly sure mine were made in NH it is good to know that without a doubt. - - - and very sorry to hear about your brother.

There is only one company with two assembly plants. I should have said factories not companies. Sorry.
