What is the Deal with the White Spacers...grip cap and buttplate?

Apparently the dreaded shrinkage has hit my 336 30-30 built in 1962...a random check aross the net turned up none available...my local parts guy said make them out of a purex jug, but empty it first. I am either going to make them, or wilol purchae them if anyone has a source...anyone?

I hear the bottoms of white plastic buckets work fine.
Just about any white plastic sheet could be cut and sanded to suit.

There is excellent advice in the do it yourself forums on this sight.

The deal is they are plastic, but not a hard plastic, so as they age they harden, and shrink. If you don't want the replacements to shrink also, then make them from hard plastic, not flexible plastic. A bleach jug will be too thin, and not look correct. It needs to be thicker material. I usually make them from scraps I buy at my local TAP plastics store.

Oversize spacers are available from Brownells, Numrich Midway etc, for recoil pad work, might be some thickness issues though.

I would guess two guys in a hundred would notice the difference.

Does it occur to those that believe that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, may be because that guy takes the time to take care of his grass?

seems to me that in the past I have heard that the white "plastic" Sterlite products like storage bins and plastic kitchen stuff

that they sell in the discount stores have been used with success when looking for a replacement material that is obtainable

    locally and cheaply.

Can anyone please tell me exactly what year did Marlin begin using the white line spacers. I have a 1953 a 1948 etc. With them. I get a lot of different answers

The book of Marlins say 1950 to 1951. But my 1949 Marlin 30/30 has the white spacer, all shrunk and discolored. So you will get different answers.
