    Another 1893. Need some help.

Raining 1893ís. So Iíve been doing some research on another Marlin 1893 for a gentleman. I sent for the factory records as seen here. Iíve not laid eyes on the gun but have been going by description. The records indicate that itís at least partially correct. Itís described as a takedown with half round barrel and a short magazine tube. It is engraved with a single stag on the left side of the receiver and scroll work on the right. There are two barrels one is marked 32HPS the other is a larger unmarked caliber. The gun is described as Fair with very worn wood and some pitted metal. No distinct checkering visible. The records for the SN ending in 662 show originally a 38-55 barrel with D4 engraving. This matches with all but the caliber of the known barrel. Trying to work on information and a value. Still need to put eyes on it and get the unmarked barrel caliber.

Great research ! Love to see a picture of the gun when you get it. I’d like to know a little more about my common 1901 vintage 38 55.

Cool Ill be looking forward to pics!
Theres not a lot of guns that old that remain all original.
With the lack of info in the records its hard to prove what is and what isn't!
The ones that are look rough and nice ones are....well $$$$$.
In the future they will be even harder to find. Just look at all the modifications we do here on MO's.
Looking at the auction sites I see a lot of antique restored guns that collectors wont give a second look yet some pay big money for.
Reading the descriptions it seems some sellers try to pass them off as originals, one offs or prototypes?
Hell there's guys that restore to the original finish right down to the roll stamp!
Buyers do your home work and always beware!

Sounds nice, that TDPG marking is take down pistol grip. The engraving is almost never in the ledgers, as well as checking. Almost never list type of butt late. Most items listed is barrel length and shape, cal. If a take down and if PG and date shipped
