    JM question?

I have a saddle ring 1894 in 44mag. Condition is 95% and has no JM mark on barrel. I know this barrel is original. Is there another way to prove its original. There is no question gun is JM.

By SN it is a early JM, that's not the issue. I'm trading off a few rifles, only for ones I want. The no JM on barrel has become a sticking point on a couple trades I could have made. I've never had forearm off. Will check under it. The barrel has standard Marlin roll marks and gun is excellent shooter. If I wasn't trading it I would give a rats arse.

Anyone who knows their salt would know from the serial number and the roll stamp if it was a JM produced gun.

I have owned a couple that didn't have the JM proof marks. Not sure how they made it out of the factory but some did.

Post it on the forum here.

I would hope that MO subscribers are savvy enough to know that yours is a JM manufacture by the serial number.

I had a trade for a 99 savage and guy backed out. He was worried the barrel had been replaced. I have seen new replacement barrels for 336s. The barrels were at least 40yrs old and they were JM marked. I say barrel with Marlin roll marks and no JM is one they failed to stamp.

You should have explained to the buyer that if it was replaced by remington, the sights would be skewered. LOL...
