'Credible Threat' - Gang Threatens To Assassinate Cops As Revenge For Shooting

Authorities announced a "credible threat" by the Gangster Disciples after U.S. Marshals fatally shot Brandon Webber.

Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that it has received a credible threat against law enforcement made by the Gangster Disciples street gang in the wake of U.S. Marshals fatally shooting one of their members on Wednesday night in Memphis.

The shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. on June 12 when the U.S. Marshals Service’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force tried to take 20-year-old Brandon Webber into custody, NPR reported.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said marshals approached Webber as he was getting into his car in the Frayser community in northern Memphis.

TBI said marshals tried to arrest Webber but "he reportedly rammed his vehicle into the officers' vehicles multiple times before exiting with a weapon,” NPR reported.

WMC reported that Webber then got out of his vehicle with a rifle and was shot by marshals.

"The officers fired, striking and killing the individual," TBI said.

No members of law enforcement were hurt during the incident, but afterward, when word of the fatal shooting had spread, outraged community members gathered nearby the scene, according to NPR.

At least 25 police officers and two journalists were injured when the protest became a riot and people began hurling bottles, rocks, and bricks at officers surrounding the crime scene.

There was also significant property damage to homes and businesses in the path of the angry mob.

Mississippi DPS said that Webber’s father made the first threat against law enforcement on Wednesday night after he learned that his son had been shot by U.S. Marshals, WLBT reported.

Webber’s father called for retaliation for the death of his son, according to DPS.

The threat was considered to be against all law enforcement officers in general, but was especially pointed at members of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to WLBT.

DPS and the Mississippi Association of Gang Investigators said their informants had warned them that the Gangster Disciples planned to kill a U.S. Marshal to even the score.

"We received credible intelligence that a threat had been issued on law enforcement pursuant to the events that occurred in the city of Memphis last evening," DPS Commissioner Marshall Fisher said. "I felt it was necessary to get that information out to law enforcement."

Marshals have been told to hide their agency designation when out in public, WLBT reported.

Authorities warned all law enforcement to be on high alert in public areas.

“We currently have an environment nationwide where it seems that law enforcement officers are increasingly under threats of violence. It's incumbent upon us to get information out as soon [sic],” Commissioner Fisher added.

The Gangster Disciples are one of the largest and most violent street gangs in Mississippi, according to the most recent gang study by the Fusion Center, WLBT reported.

In 2015, the Gangster Disciples joined with the 74 Hoover Crips to threaten law enforcement shortly after two arrests were made in the murders of Hattiesburg Police Officers Liquori Tate and Benjamin Deen, both of whom were fatally shot in the line of duty during a traffic stop.

The Clarion Ledger published the chilling threat at the time.

"The 74 Hoover Crips and Gangster Disciples have a hit on law enforcement... The GD's have been told to 'Smash on Site' or 'Shoot on Site,'” the law-enforcement only bulletin read. "We all need to take these threats seriously and keep your heads on swivel."

Webber had posted an eight-minute Facebook live video just hours before his fatal encounter with law enforcement on June 12, according to WLBT. The video has since been removed from the social media platform.

In the video, the fugitive was driving along singing and smoking.

When he spotted a Memphis police car as he drove, Webber said they’d have to catch him and then said he would “do” them.

"I ain't lying, I'm gonna do they a-- so bad," Webber said in the video, according to WLBT.

Maybe the Marshall's office needs to put out a "shoot on sight" bulletin for the ones makin' the threat?!

Police officer causes of death: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._1791-2016.png

The late 60's / early 70's. was the worst for officer killings in modern times, rivalling the prohibition era. Looks like the graph is moving in a deadlier direction again.

Be vigilant, brothers walking the thin blue line. May God protect our centurions doing justice.

Street gangs should be treated like terrorists. They are a serious internal threat. Cops have to think as if they are in a war zone whenever they go to work. You can't always tell who wants to kill you. Tends to make you hypervigilant. There are plenty of us willing to help an officer, but we have to go about it very carefully so our intent is not misunderstood. Be safe everyone.

Sharkbait,I agree. These terrorist need to be dealt with extreme prejudice. Gangs running whole inner cities and threatening our law enforcement is not a good thing.

Gar good to see you again. Just talked with a law enforcement friend of mine,he is worried this could turn into copycat situation. If it starts it may not end well! It will effect all of us,if it starts be alert, police may not be the only targets, just his thoughts.
