Everybody should have a P-38 military grade can opener on their keychain. I have found that the commercial ones are generally junk, and bend the first time you use them.

My dad a WW2 Navy guy was fascinated by P38 can openers. He was always on me to get all them I could. I sent a handful home in every package I sent. I never realized how many until Dad passed. We found cigar box 1/2 full of P38s still in the paper packs. What is funny is to watch person who never used a can opener try to use a P38.

I remember when I was in the service.
When the cases of C rations would come the very first thing taken out of the case was the P 38's.
There was only 2 of them in every case.
My wife still uses one today to open cans.

anyone other than Harold would know that we would not starve ourselves even before the p-38s or other gizmos,
if he had ever learned to open cans with any pointed-robust kitchen knife, even a screwdriver, a pocket knife or a bayonet_
... I learned it from my mother, who is 90 years old today.

I'd forgotten about those little rascals. Not being a veteran, I had no idea what it was the 1st time I saw one. That was probably 40 years ago, and I soon had several. Can't recall where a single one of them are now.

Time to head towards the multiples of military surplus stores up by Knox I guess. Everyone should have 1/2 dozen or so.

Ditto! I have some but have no clue where they are, that applies to a lot of stuff I have. Every time I need something I have to go on a scavenger hunt.

My P-38 memory. Thought okay, put one on my dog tag chain. Before a patrol during the jump and shake test for noise, big fail, got dogged out hard over that one.

I'm not even allowed to comment in detail the troubles our national Geniuses are causing here :
They smartly skipped first to stop foreigners (at the borders, airports, etc.) and to scan Italian travellers coming back from the well known infected China,
(it was not politically correct, you know),
now someone of the same Einsteins, here, are even considering the possibility of imposing a curfew...
enough said, but this don't belong to Joke Forum, sadly_

I agree about p-38 and p-51 : I've nothing against Lightnings or Mustangs, if only I could afford, fly, etc., them !_
about opening cans, I'm more with a knife,
but only because I've enough D.O.T. problems with my rigid Harley, go figure with a WW2 fighter !

    Mr.Fixit,
    seriously,heartily thanks for asking !:
if you pass through here, i will really owe you a beer !
