I would also remove it but use something other than a screwdriver. Acetone might work.

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

In the book 'Accurizing the Factory Rifle' by ML McPherson he suggests bonding the mag tube to the barrel and receiver using, I believe silicone.
A gun is a tool, ...no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that. -Shane

Is that by any chance about 8.5 inches from the receiver end of the tube? I ask because I just took the tube out of my new (a few months ago, from Buds) 1894/357 and found what looks like the beginning of some kind of cut on the "top" of the tube at that location. Like somebody started to cut a notch across the tube but the cutter moved around a bit and took off some metal, and then they stopped cutting. Left shiny steel, but no filler material. I've cold blued the blemish in anticipation of oiling the outside of the tube when I reassemble and probably not looking at it again for years. But your photos make me wonder if it's common for these tubes to have flaws like this?
