Think I just broke my Marlin 882

I have a Marlin 882 in 22 WMR. It's a great gun for plinking or squirrel hunting, which I do a lot of. I was cleaning it this afternoon and managed to get the bolt stuck in the rifle so that it will begin to open - but not far enough to actually put a round in the chamber or eject one.

You know the little spring-loaded thing on the back of the bolt, that allows you to "lock it" for safety. Well I had pulled the bolt out completely to run the bore snake through it. When I put it back in I tried to line up the pins on the business end of the bolt with the grooves in the receiver. I turned the safety off, squeezed the trigger and slid the bolt back in per the owner's manual instructions, then closed the bolt. To my horror - when I went to work the bolt it wouldn't pull back all the way. Then I remembered there's this little metal piece that sticks out the side of that spring loaded thingy that "locks" the bolt - it is usually visible on the back end of the bolt. I wasn't visible. It appears that I didn't have the bolt situated correctly and I managed to push that little metal piece past the stock and into the receiver! And it seems that's what's not permitting me to open the bolt all the way. I tried taking the bolt out again by turning off the safety and squeezing the trigger - but to no avail.

So have I done permanent damage to my 882? Do I need to bring it to a gunsmith?

No rush on that end. It's illegal to hunt deer with a rimfire and I'd never think about doing so anyway. Plus I've already burned my firearms tag (shot a 7 ptr in late October) and now only have an archery tag to fill.

UPDATE: I emailed Marlin and have a "ticket" - I hope to be hearing back form them soon. I'm also gonna take it to my local gunsmith on Friday when I get back from Thanksgiving break. If they won't touch it - I may have to ship it to Marlin and let them deal with it.

This might help a bit. At least now you can tell us the part number of the spring loaded thing, and you can compare your bolt to the diagram for positioning. It's gotta come out, just be patient with it.
