I've been to Texas many times. Went to fire school at A&M. Been back a few times. Always a pleasure, and always nice to visit
Having said that, I couldn't live there. Too many people, too many wanna be pokes, and not enough freedom. It's touted as a free and independent state, but falls on it's face in many aspects.
But it's got pigs. Lots of em!

Not really. No matter your social status, the laws of man, and the political agenda there will always keep freedom from getting too close to it.
Does Texas still claim Austin?
Hey Hillbillyhas - when you decide on a place (and why that place) let us know. Next year at this time (in Jan. or Feb.) my wife and I are going to Texas (for the first time for either of us). We will visit Dallas, San Antonio, and then Corpus Christie so that she can get in some beach time. On the way back toward Ohio we'll stop for a 2-day hog hunt in either TX or OK. I haven't decided where or with whom, so I'm interested in your search for a place/outfitter/ranch whatever.
I didn't mind corpus. In fact, I've enjoyed everywhere I've been in Texas...I even had a good time in Midland!
Like I said, I genuinely like Texas and Texans. But I don't think I could live there full time.
If one is going somewhere for beaches, yes Florida is hard to beat. Florida has pigs too. And Osceola turkeys.
And Florida has Cubans. Cuban folks = Cuban food.
Mmm. Cubanos and plantanos maduros fritos...mmm... with a mojito...
