    That 629-4 would be a perfect hiking companion for Alaska( or many other places for that matter).

    I have five 29-2s. One 8 3/8" , three 6 1/2" and one 4". The 4" is NIB. I never had much use for 4" and shorter revolvers. I use to buy all 8 3/8" until I found I could shoot 6-6 1/2" just as well. I have one 8 3/8" N frame P&R in each caliber but don't go out of my way to get them. 4 inchers are trade bait.image.jpeg

    For me, 4 inch guns are "working guns". Anything 6 inches and up are range or hunting guns. Like 'em all though. Nice set of -2's Drm50!

    I live in the sticks where there is lots of "air" between targets. A 6 1/2" N is not much more to carry than 4". Ohio has 5" minimum on handguns for Deer hunting. I think 5" Ns would be perfect all around length. Especially with a tapered barrel.

    My "perfect" 44 Magnum would be a 5 inch 629 with a half lug barrel, but S&W made only one like that. Here it is. The owner shared the picture with me a while back.
