Well, after being ordered on Sunday the 14th, the Uberti El Patron Competition arrived at the LGS today.

I got the call, and jumped in the Jeep and went to pick it up.

Initial inspection gets a passing grade. The only thing I can complain about is, the ears on the backstrap are a little sharp, but I'm being very critical here, because the fit and finish is fully acceptable in all other places.
At some point later this season, I'll lightly stone the offending ears and things will be fine

The checkered Grips that I was concerned about will no doubt be fine (perfect) for Fall carry with gloved hands..............I'll keep these grips thru this winter. They actually look a lot better than the file pics on the internet.

The Spring upgrade to Wolfe Springs feels good, but the proof will be on the Pistol range. The action is as smooth as my 2011 Colt NF, but not as smooth as my USFA's.............That's fine, IMO, the USFA's fire control systems are in a class by themselves, anyway..................

Overall fit and finish is all as good as the Colt NF in all areas, except the "ears".........While the Fit and finish does not approach that of the USFA's .........that's the reason I wanted this, to retire the the Colts and the USFA's

Overall score............I think this Uberti is a very fine pistol for the price..............No complaints...........

Here are some fast iphone pics, just to prove this all really happened today.................

Thanks to everyone for your replies and comments. I really appreciate the vast knowledge that is available, and so freely given here on Marlin Owners...............

Oh, that little skinning knife with the Birch Burl scales was made from a Ferrier's horseshoe rasp by Roper Kiesner of Riley Oklahoma. I bought it from Roper at the Big Tulsa Gun Show a few weeks ago...........Google him, or find him on face book. I think he does great work and a reasonable price, and he's got a very impressive history as a real Rodeo Cowboy.......a young man with a bright future. I'll need to made a working sheath for this little knife, 'cuz the cross draw won't work well for me.

I shoot RH, but use tools LH..........Knives need to come out of a sheath, and be in my Left hand!

Very nice setup. Have fun, looking forward to your range report and thoughts on the retractable firing pin.

    David,
That Firing Pin setup looks like a pretty "Trick" design............I hope it works well, both firing, and casual un-cocking.

I'll post my thoughts, after I have some!

I have been looking at a very lightly used Taylors Mod 1849 Colt Pocket Pistol at the LGS. That one should be a very fun BP pistol to shoot!
