    Caliber question

I’d like an open sights levergun for pigs while running and gunning. I’m not interested in wildcat/handloader special calibers. The three that are coming to mind to me are 44mag because I have a revolver in that, 30-30 because it rocks and I already stock 30-30 in bulk as it’s one of my all time favorite rounds, and 4570 because it’s a classic that hits like a train and I don’t have one already. As for the action, I’m only interested in a Marlin lever with a Skinner sight and preferably a shorter barrel.

My 1894 in 44mag was purchased for exactly the same task, fast, snap shots at pigs at close range.

It does the job exceptionally well.

Shooting 240 grain semi jacketed hollow points & knocking them over with no problem.

All 3 calibers would do the job well for your purposes. 44 Mag will work great up to a certain distance and 30-30 will be slightly cheaper to get into since you already have that caliber.

do what everyone else does - buy the 45/70 - because you dont have one - then hunt em with the 30-30 because its your favorite ----- course, if you thump em with a 35 they stay thumped - 35R is the answer----

.35 Rem. Lots of power with low report and recoil.

I'd buy the .35, just because I like the round, but in reality, the 30-30 is all you need for hogs and is easier to find and reload ammo for.

I used to use a 44 magnum 1894 for that, cut down the barrel to 18" to make it a little handier.
