    Ret_Eng,

My grandaughter's husband told me he passed the Virginia Hunter Safety Course on line. Can your grandson do that for a Virginia hunt, and is he too young?

I grew up in eastern WA state--right up against the foothills of the Rockies, so I am very familiar with the white stuff. Tours in Germany and AK made sure I didn't forget what white dirt is--but I am glad to not have to deal with it that much anymore!

I will have to look into that--the only stickler might be that he is not living in VA.

White dirt is fun. Where else can you ride a 425lb sled that puts out 175 hp on a near frictionless surface!

    Mr. Shawlerbrook,

It sounds to me like you're not too far from Old Forge..............That little town should be coming alive now.............

OH,...........I just cleared my driveway of 1+ inch of snow and ice............OK, I've seen it, and moved it..........Can I now be through with it for the year ?

Actually, I am at 1700’ between Syracuse and Binghamton. Old Forge has broken 200” a few winters. They average about 170”. We are in the sweet spot where we get both lake effect and Nor’easters.

Yeah--TX does have the warm weather in spades--but when snow/ice shows up---expect everything to shut down. TX can also have "boomerang" weather in the winter. I remember coming back from a January field exercise at North Ft Hood with the temps in the 20s, a week later--the temp hit 100.

I got lucky at Ft Wainwright during 1992-1994 as I experienced two "light" AK winters. Snow fall during that time didn't top a 200 inch total. The big difference up in AK is that the snow doesn't melt--once it falls--it stays the whole winter with very little melting--if at all.
