As I recall, he requested a firing squad. The squad members were picked by lottery from many applicants.

    Firing squad

Think there were five shooters, too. They were issued Winchester lever-rifles in 30-30 and practiced on a dummy beforehand to sight-in and verify the sandbag back-stop. They pinned a small target directly over his heart. After the fatal volley, Gardner tensed up, fists clenched, and perished in less than 30 seconds without a sound.
Fast, efficient and final—no botched needle sticks or improperly mixed IV drugs. Zero chance of surviving the execution. The term, “attempted execution” would quickly succumb to extinction were states to return to firing squads to carry out the death penalty.

Did it really need to take 25 YEARS to get it done? Really?

That's my biggest gripe about the death penalty. If someone's guilty beyond any doubt and convicted, then By God do it! Get it over with! Make a public event out of it with a picnic and BBQ, I'll bring potato salad.

And I'll bring the ammo, guns and an itchy trigger finger!

Until you're faced with something like this? Incontrovertible evidence. Yeah, right.

You might want to google Ronnie Lee Gardner and check out his story. No mistake made in this particular case.
