Dad bought three (3) Henry Rifles

Dad is turning 70 in November - was wanting me to head to Durango and pick up a new Marlin 22 Lever Action - had a couple spotted, between $350 and $370.

For reasons that are not clear to me, he went and bought three (3) Henry Rifles - one 22 mag and two 22 long rifles. He's claiming they are just great - I think that sucks.

Does anyone know much about Henry rifles? Would anyone care to compare a Henry to a Marlin?

I just hate the shiny brass receiver - what the #### does that do for hunting? And the shiny barrel band?

Guess of course, its his business what he buys - but this is the guy that got me started shooting Marlins at age 8 - been 39 years now, since first shooting the 30-30. I just don't like any other lever action better than Marlin.

I know a couple guys that have the Henrys and they seem to shoot ok. I dont think for the price you can go too wrong...but they are no mod 39! I have looked at them but the drop on the stock is to much for me. I have to get my chin up on the stock to shoot them and cant stand to shoot that way.

If they had made the action out of brass I would love them but since it's an aluminum-zinc alloy [just an educated guess]it kind of cheapens them but probably in a good way as well as a bad way, if the reciever was solid brass they would have to charge more.Oh yeah,. they might sell more too but that's a maybe that the bean counter's didn't want to risk. You never know I might buy one.Shootrj2003

I sure do like my Henry. It is not a Golden Boy so no shiny brass. A real shooter.

    Nanook,
I think I have this figured out. Your Dad started you shooting Marlins at the age of 8, and that was 29 years ago, so that makes you 47. If he didn't start appreciating the brass framed rifles until he was 70, you have 23 more years to enjoy Marlins until that bug hits you.

Hello Riflemen: I don't know too much about the Henery's but don't they make a lever action tube feed 22 magnum? I would rather have a marlin in this caliber but I'm going to get a 22 magnum lever some which of a way. Bestlever
