For me? i haven't lost a a mag tube on a tube loader, however I'm carrying a 22 for light game, centerfires I carry for other purposes. And I try to minimize potential issues, to me is more likely fail than the fixed magazine of the marlin.
Btw, shot my marlin a good bit and have never had a problem loading the mag.

Loading gates work well. Really well. Which may explain why they've been used on lever rifles since 1866.

Tube loaders work well, too, and there is no reason why they would be more likely to fail than a loading gate.

I have Marlins, Winchesters and Henrys. They all work just fine. While I can understand that some may prefer one method of loading over the other, neither is superior to the other.

That about sums it up. I chuckle everytime a fella mentions how much faster the loading gate is in a firefight.

The lever rifle could be used for self defense but remember it is not a military grade weapon.

The loading gate problem could be fixed. I did that on my R92 Rossi rifle and it worked great. Made loading very easy. Havent seen anything on the Marlins as a remedy for hard port loading.

I dont see anything wrong with the tube loading. I would like to see a 5 shot version which would make the Henry easier to use at the range. They could use the tube from the pistol.

    JMHO.

    In today's sense you're right.
But, lever actions do have a rich military history: American Rifleman | Winchester Lever-Actions Go To War

Many of the designs remain the same.
