    Wink carbon fiber barrels

Traded for a MRI 17 mach 2 semi auto rifle with carbon fiber barrel. It is unbelievably accurate and lightweight and functions flawlessly. It is now ready for a cleaning. Do I need to treat it differently from other barrels. It was used and did not come with a manual. Carbon fiber barrels are pricey but are worth it, at least in rimfire calibers. Does anybody have one in a centerfire?

Interesting, one would think that bullets would wear it out quick. Does it have a metal sleeve. I could see maybe a carbon fiber mag tube and maybe even a carbon fiber receiver. I know it can take the heat, F1 uses it for brake rotors and they're only 10 grand or so a set.

Some that I just looked up are wound carbon fiber over a steel tube of some sort.. Note this is still used to day to make large cannon barrels(105 mm for starters) using a combination of heavy gage wire and or carbon fiber. All as far as I know require a inner steel core and are then wrapped in carbon fiber. There are a lot of choices for these barrels. I hope this helps.
As for cleaning go to the manufactures website for the correct information ... And not "Bubba" !

we buld airplanes out of carbon fibre here at spirit. after cooking, the stuff has to be worked with diamond tipped tools.if made right, it should never wear out. but watch for getting zink on it, I read somewhere3 that zink galvanizing can eat holes in carbon fiber.

I have seen carbon fiber barrels on .223 Wilde AR builds.I know they also come in .308 and in 30 cal.And I am sure, all other center fire calibers too. They are just a thin steel barrel wraped in carbon fiber.Very light.
I have a 16" Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel on my Ruger 10 22 takedown.Very light and very accurate.I like mine allot.

I know my carbon fiber road bike has an incredible ability to absorb and dissipate road shock. Wonder if it does that to recoil to some degree.
