    This years "Camp Grandmaw!"

    Every summer a lot of the grandchildren come to visit the farm for a week or so. Gives a bunch of the cousins a chance to catch up with each other, without parental supervision. The bulk are due in Sunday but this year two brothers came early and without cousins here yet I asked them if they wanted to shoot or try and do some knife works. It has been raining off and on so the knife idea brought smiles. I had some Damascus blanks so we decided to see how a 14 and almost 13 year old would do! With Grandpaws instruction and minimal supervision, we spent about 5 hours getting the rough handles shaped and glued on to the blanks.... Today another five hours, shaping and hand sanding, then the first coat of Tru-Oil. Told them it would be at least another day before they could touch them and put a second coat on! They spent the next thirty minutes watching the finish dry! Their looks show they seemed to pe proud of their work. Grandpaw enjoyed it too.

    That is GREAT bonding time with the grandkids. How many kids get to "make" a knife? Awesome stuff Grandpaw

    That's a knife that they'll cherish forever. Maybe one day they'll tell their kids about it.. "I made this knife with Grandpaw". (priceless.)

    Fantastic!!! My problem is getting my grandsons off the couch and out of the house!! Not much luck yet, but I haven't given up!! They're 14 and 12.

    Great way to spend some time with your Grandsons. They'll always remember the time Grandpa taught them how to build knives and be able to show their work to their own children.
