Looking closer....It looks like it has a tang safety too. Are you sure this is a 99A?

[EDIT] - nevermind...I looked it up...there were 99As with a tang safety....sorry...I just never saw one....shame on me.

My wife is a tall and not petite. See shoots my .35 Remington and killed a deer with it and it doesn't have a recoil pad. I don't think a .243 will bother her either.

I don't follow the later Sav 99s and was only aware of 99a with tang safety when I wanted to trade my 99eg 250 for a carbine model
with straight stock. I had one when I was a kid but don't remember the model. There must be several of the tang safety models around because I got several trade offers. I didn't bite because I only like the older model with lever safety and spool magazine. I lost track of 99s when they came out with clip mag models.

This has a spool magazine and I love it. Quite an awesome gun.

On the top safety 99's, the stock can affect the safety operation. I found that the safety will sometimes not work correctly when the pressure on the side panels cause binding. The top safeties need most of the pressure to be on the lower tang with zero pressure on the top tang and very little pressure on the side panels. Sometimes just easing up pressure on the stock bolt allows the safety to work, a thin piece of cardboard between the lower tang and stock will also reveal the problem. I have run into this on several top safety 99's. The safety works fine, then when the stock is tightened it stops working. If the safety works properly without the stock, an adjustment to stock bedding may be needed. The side-safety models don't have this problem.
