    Problem swapping lever

I swapped the big loop lever on my 336BL to a standard lever and I'm having a problem. Once the lever is opened fully I can't close the action. It moves forward until the lifter reaches it's highest point and won't go any further.

Timing...remove your "new" lever, lay it on top of the original, compare the ends. Minor fitting is the norm. File/sand the replacement to match your original.

I agree, this is the best advice.

Sounds like the Carrier Plunger is not being ridden down by the tapered cut on the front of the lever upon closing.

Check to see that the plunger is not out too far with the washer on the back loosening up. The taper cut on the lever has a flat edge at the start of the taper (does not come to a sharp edge) and if the plunger is out a little too far this flat edge will hit the straight side of the plunger locking the rifle up tight.

Also look at the two taper cuts on the front and back edges of the lever that interfaces with the plunger, are they cut the same on both levers?

    Photos would help.

I realize this is an old thread but I wanted to say thanks. I had the same problem and the explanation here helped me solve it. Yes, I'm new here and working on Marlins is new to me. That's why I'm here.
