Ret_Eng buys his first Beatle album on 13 Aug 1966---"Revolver" (I think the price was ~$3.50). He wanted to buy the "Beatles Second Album" since it included "She Loves You" but was overruled by Dad. Dad said no "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" stuff in my house! Dad was to regret that after listening to the pre-psychedelic stuff on "Revolver".

I left home and went to work at a very tender age. The music/hair/facial hair conflicts got to be too much. 1965-66. Never looked back. As I was leaving, my mom told me my life was headed for trouble because of "too many dates and too many Beatle records". That's a quote.

I had graduated from third grade when buying Revolver so I was still very young. Dad and Mom kept a tight rein on me--I remember listening to my new LP on low volume so as not to get my parents all riled up. The long hair came later--around 1972 if I remember right. Later on my parents saw the light--they actually liked a lot of the late 1960s to mid-1970s rock.

Did your dad threaten to shoot any vehicle that pulled up in the yard within earshot playing hard rock?
Mine did, and he damn sure meant it...I was a child of the 80’s, after all.

My dad was a child of the 1920's. He was convinced that Satan gave the Commies Rock and Roll to give to American youth to destroy society. A real thinking man. If he came home and we were listening to Rock, sometimes he'd beat us. If he turned on the radio, and Rock came on, same deal. We had to remember to change the station when we were done. Depending on what kind of day he had at work, we'd get thumped. My older sister and I left, by the time my little sister came of age, they'd mellowed. To this day, my mom and I don't talk. I've never forgiven them for mistreating their children. Of course I learned how to raise mine, so some good came out of it.

My dad was born in 1915, so I also caught hell from him being strict, but I lived thru it, long hair and all! Music like rock n roll was not allowed around him!
