    WARNING: Become thoroughly familiar
with the hammer positions before loading
the rifle with ammunition. Failure to
follow the instructions in #3 above, may
result in “false half cock”, a condition
that may allow the hammer to fall and
fire the rifle if the hammer block safety
button is in the FIRE position, and the
    trigger is pulled.

I think someone at Marlin needs to 'splain this. Mr fixit

    Re: False half-cock

Sounds like something that happened to one person once and no one can duplicate it and a company lawyer got wind of it.

I'm still amused at Ruger's manual that recommended disassembling my LCP and storing the parts in different locations. They further state that this will render the firearm inoperable. Ya think?

    Re: False half-cock

If you hold the trigger back too long as you let the hammer down and then let go of the trigger it will land on this "false half cock". You can then pull the trigger and the hammer will drop rest of the way. When you land on the false half cock you just pull the hammer back a bit and it will latch in the half cock notch.

    Re: False half-cock

Apparently, false half-cock is when you lower the hammer from the full cock position and it catches on the lip of the half-cock notch instead of getting fully trapped into it. Then a trigger pull or hard blow could cause the hammer to fall the rest of the way to the firing pin because it was not actually trapped fully into the the half-cock notch. This is why the hammer block safety is recommended along with the half-cock position. This false half-cock is rare but has happened on some guns.

    Re: False half-cock

Good to know. I have been in the habit of lowering the hammer all the way down (or to the cb safety) then pulling it back to the half-cock position. I wish I could say that I did that for safety's sake... I do it that way because I like the 'click'.

    Re: False half-cock

Thanks! I'd never heard of it before or had it happen.

(now to go play with my 1894CCL to see if I can duplicate it. Safety on and unloaded of course)
