So far Win 10 is okay on the laptop. Toshiba had locked in the Intel video card driver to a now-outdated version on the Win 7 installation that the latest versions of MATLAB and Illustrator take issue with. I upgraded to 10 to get access to the latest drivers and that much worked. Bootup is a bit slower, and I seem to experience more frequent system slowdowns when saving and loading files and such, but overall it seems like a nice enough version of Windows.

But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?"

Since all I ever use is the commercial or pro edition of windows over the years (less bell and whistles running in the background) I aint to worry about it.

With the "free" upgrade, can you choose the PRO or Enterprise versions?
