Hey - years ago, for years I had a personilzed licence plate that simply said A-N-D..... some folks thought it was my initials, some were confused because it is Not my initials. My wife (Bless her Heart) thought it was “us” as my name begins with ‘A’ , hers with ‘D’ - and I let her go on thinking that until she heard me talking to my brother from Jersey about it when he came to visit... I said “ read it.” . “A... N... D...”. Now, read it faster “ A-N-D “ .... now ready it faster with a Southern twang .. “A-ndeee” put it all together - “Andy” - yep, that’s me!

I was not allowed to renew that plate. True story

I've learned "Carolina backhoe" (shovel) and "Carolina comealong" immediately made sense for a truckers hitch or a bight on a bowline as I learned the knot and it's use,

I have lived in Virginia 57 years. Before that I lived in Florida, Georgia, and S. Carolina. I married a girl from N. Carolina. I travel south and back to Florida every year and am always saddened that the South's rich spoken culture we love so deeply seems to be fading away. I wish I could spend just a week in South Georgia one more time in 1955 and just listen to them talk. I am 82 and I know what homesick is.
