    BLR value?

A LGS has a BLR 81 for sale. Some type of scope. Nothing noteworthy. 308 Winchester. Receiver looks plum colored. It is an older gun as the locking logs of the bolt are exposed when the gun is in battery.
He want $850 for it. Seems high to me. It is the straight stock so not a whole lot of interest on my part. I keep looking at new stainless pistol grip guns that are around $1000. Prefer the 308 Win but like the 22" barrel of the 30-06. I am tired of being beaten up with recoil.

i would agree the price on the used gun seems high. This year, all my hunts so far have been with a short action 308 Stainless BLR Lightweight, light contour 20 inch barrel, set up with aluminum rings/base and 1.5x5 scope it is an ideal lightweight/fast t carry rifle. Going to the long action 22 inch 30-06, changes the weight and handiness a bit, about 1/2 pound heavier and three inches longer, but is still very much a handy carry rifle, but have the power advantage of a 22 inch 30-06. Have a 22 inch, short action BLR in 7mm WSM, which sort of cuts the specs in half, do not find it a problem at all in the woods. A short action 22 inch BLR in 300 WSM would do that for you, if reloading, fitting everything from light deer loads to grizzly busters. Keep an eye on GB for a used rifle, sometimes a very good deal can be had.

I agree, seems a tad high. I have a BLR lightweight PG in .358 Win. I think a 7mm-08 pistol grip would fit the bill nicely. A blued version can be had on sale at my LGS for $800.

No interest in less than 30.cal, so it does limit my search

I don't reload for the 300 WSM, but already load 30-06 for M1 Garand.
If I go 308 Winchester ammo is reasonable.

If it’s the first model with a perch belly style magazine...
those magazine’s are hard to come by.
i would stay away from those.
i would get one with a
flush fit magazine as those magazines
    are easier to come by.
$850 is way to much imho...
unless it’s wearin a Leupold or something similar.
