    Sent product request to boyd's

I asked for 336A stock set to be produced for the earlier models. 40's-50's with the wide, flat fore end with cap. I can't find any originals or reproductions of the correct style.

I'm thinking they need some kind of sample to put in the 3D pantograph... If they don't have an original, they can't make a copy...

I offered to send them a forearm to pattern and was bluntly told that was not allowed. They seem content on selling stuff that can't be returned. Very frustrating to say the least.

Yup. I was going to order an 1894 forend from Boyds. Noticed the length as listed on their website, and it was too short. The buttstock where it met the receiver was too fat. I measured a JM Marlin and a Remlin. Both exactly the same,so I called Boyds. Talked to a nice lady on the phone and gave her the specs. She went to the warehouse, got the pieces and called me back. She said that's what they sell,it fits their sample gun,and they're not changing. I thanked her for her time. Their sample gun does not match any measurements I've taken on my guns or the neighbor's 1894 I was working on. Had to call Ilion and get a Remlin buttstock, and I salvaged the forearm I had on hand.
I guess that's where it's at with Boyds.

These cottage industries crack me up when they refuse to listen to the end user. I'm guessing they have enough business to keep going but stories like this are a real turnoff for people like me.

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

and -make a note - their barrel channels don't fit the early model mrlins - the barrels were bigger around in those days, I had to put 1895 furniture on mine....

It’s a shame they can’t make a cap style forend that actually fits the 336. I really wanted one of their stocks. But maybe it’s for the best. I’ve read a lot of horror stories online about their terrible customer service. I wanted to take it with a grain of salt but after seeing the poll on here where guys measured their friends and The vast majority of the 336 with end cap were longer than what Boyd’s makes. What’s the point?
