Darn you and the photos of your M1A, Dennis Sounds like a great time!

I really need to get cracking on deciding what to do with my unbuilt FAL. I've been talking about selling it, which I really probably need to do sooner rather than later just because I hardly have enough room in the safe anymore and I would be better served by the cash at this point, but I really hate to. I figure I'll replace it with a nice M1A down the road, anyhow.

This week I'm going to order a new Zastava Mauser (lefty) that I have a small window to get. Always wanted a left handed Mauser since reading Col. Cooper's books. It'll put me that much farther from owning an M1A, though, but I think it'll be worth it

I'm trying to decide on chambering for the Mauser...I have a couple more days to decide. I'm thinking I'll go with .30-06. But I've been considering .270 and 7X57 as alternatives, along with possibly 9.3X62. Especially if I go with .30-06 and am happy with the rifle I will probably get rid of all my Mosin-Nagants but one.

What I'm really thinking is squeezing down my military rifle collection to one, which would be my most favorite and suitable to my left handedness. In an ideal world that'd probably be a nice M1A, but I don't know if I'll be able to convince myself to sell my AR...that thing is just sweet and setup perfectly for me. Full ambidextrous controls, an amazing trigger (Geissele SSA two-stage), 20" BCM mil-spec upper, Magpul modular grip, Magpul trigger guard, Colt lower parts, lightweight...the thing is the ideal AR-15, painstakingly assembled with parts hand-chosen by me.

Nice looking set up. Looks like I should get a pic or two of mine put up. I've the same rifle, but with BUIS (mine came with RRA's flip sight gas block assembly and the Dominator 2 rear sight). I've shorted the Dominator two so that I could mount my EOtech 553 sight, or I add a flip up sight from GG&G when I have my Leupold 4.5 x 14 Varmint scope on.

I got the minimalist bug some time ago, hence the paring down of my safe contents. I went from the younger Dennis maxim (Quantity vs Quality) to the older Dennis v2.0... (Quality, nothing trumps Quality.) But with the even newer version v2.1... (Quality WITH Versatility!) To that end, I don't see any reason to keep your AR, sell some of your redundant stuff (Mosins, for example) and excess to needs (FAL parts) and come up with the loot for a good M1a. Unlike the AR, a box-stock M1a is just about as good as it gets, with a few do-it-youself mods. A GI sling, 10 new CMI mags and you are in business... oh, and a case of 7.62mm surplus because once you start firing it, you won't want to stop.

So... I have my 2 AR's and my Socom... and that's probably, realistically, all I'll ever need or get.

I have a Eotech 512 with a 5x magnifier for this rifle also, just got the night vision itch and had to add something to the collection.

    Lar-15

Picked this model up from a local gunshop, daughter and pop operation. Great little gun store and the daughter is a top notch, knowledgeable gunny. Dad must be very proud.

The rifle performs as advertized with the several loads I've tried (all commercial from SS109 green tip to Federal Premium Vital Shok 60 gn) Going to try the Corbon 63 grain hunters soon as well as a couple of handloads I've worked up. Looking forward to using it on varmints to deer, even though I'll have to travel and pay out-of-state fees to do so.
