Admittedly not the best photo, but yet the Ruffed Grouse can be clearly seen if you can see past it's natural camouflage.
I rarely see them before they flush.

Wow, well camouflaged. I cheated and had to zoom in to identify the bird.

There's grouse all over where I elk hunt and surprise the hell out of me if they do flush. Most often they just freeze in place but when they do take off they sound like a pheasant. One of these years I'll bring a 22 along with me for a camp dinner (after I fill my tag clearly).

I rarely ever see them but hear them drumming when I'm turkey hunting.

I miss having a good number of grouse.

I usually see them as them as they flush which is usually followed my screams of a female and then profanity in a manly voice.

Is that it just left of center just in front of that horizontal brush that extends across the width of the picture?I am not sure.It is difficult to make it out. They sure can hide right in plain sight.I think I need new glasses.

I love grouse, whether I'm hunting them, or just watching them from my deer hunting location. Their numbers aren't real good any more, but I still see a few each year.

Movement usually gives game away just like it does from game to us. I spotted it. But I have walked by or flushed more than one I did not see.
