I just adopted an early 1894c that has not been hardly used. I did a polish job
and re-assembled. Really helped, but I noticed forward and backward travel on the
trigger regardless of the position of the hammer. I had not noticed that before
taking it down, and I think I would have if it had been present. My 39 has no play
in any position of the hammer.
Did I get the trigger spring out of position ? Or how could you eliminate some of
the free play??
tc
My Marlins all have the trigger movement you describe, if I understand your question. I can't explain why, design wise, that free play exists, but it does. I was alarmed when I first discovered it, but it seems to be quite normal.
Your model 39A has a one piece trigger. The older Marlins had one piece triggers also. Most often if it does not have a trigger block it has a one piece trigger.
This one is an "82" model . I just was not aware of any movement before the
polish job. If its normal, I can live with it. Just thought I may not have got the
spring placed correct.
Thanks guys..
You have to get the MARLIN TRIGGER but they work in all the new Marlin Levers . . .BROWNELLS link was posted above - here is the link to MIDWAYUSA . . .

I got my happy trigger from Brownells, mine dropped right in. Trigger feels good.
