My experience has been deer do not run very far when hit with a 348. The model 71 is one sweet rifle indeed.

I have one and am anxious to get next to a moose or caribou with it. Or bear. Good luck with yours. They are the nicest of all the Winchesters lever guns, followed closely by the 65 and 64.

I have long wanted a Winchester 71. They are scarce and way pricey when/if you can find one. At this point I'd probably buy one if I run across it if the price is even half way reasonable. Just cause I WANT IT!

Good luck on your hunt! Hope we get to see pictures!

my friends tell me I'm crazy, maybe.I wanted one all my life, always just out of reach.Last summer at a gun show I looked at a solid gun with very little finish left but still a solid gun.Used but never abused for $1350.I thought about it but held out for a better gun.Early fall I was at another show, guy showed up with a standard, uncheckered 1937 with bolt peep, solid 90+%.Very nice gun, very stiff price but i bought it $2500.I wanted it,I bought it. The kicker though 19 boxes of factory ammo....How did I do? I'm happy

Pretty much all I hunt with these days. I don't own a 71, but I have a couple 1886's. They are great!
