I bought mine because, I'd had a 450-70 and a 444, so just had to have a 450 as well. To be honest, it's not really ever shot anymore. One of these days I'll dig it out and put it up for sale.

I finally found one! Basically I saw it at a LGS, walked around on pins and needles for about 2 weeks and then went and traded a Mini-14 towards it cause I really didn’t have the spare funds. GLAD I did it!! Sweet looking thumper =)

My story isn’t that interesting. I got mine because my best friend got his first. He brought it up to hunting camp in the summer and he had some about 500 grain hard cast loads from either Garrett or Buffalo Bore. I touched off two of those and realized I had to have one.

Later that year during hunting season, we stopped in the gun shop at the bottom of the mountain and there was one there. The shop owner got it when he bought out another shop and he didn’t have the box or papers so the price was discounted a bit. I had more guns than cash at the time and asked if he would take an old gen 2 Glock 21 plus cash and he jumped on it. Turns out he had another customer that was looking for a Glock like mine so it was a win for all three of us.

Now that I think about it, I guess I did do things kind of backwards. I got my .450 first. Two years ago I got an 1895 ABL from the same shop I got my .450 from and then early this year I picked up a .444P.

I bought my .450MR for a couple reasons - first, where I elk hunt it is dark timber and the likelihood of ever getting a shot even to 100 yards is very slim - and I got tired of lugging around that heavy .300 Wby mag with the 57 pound scope - so I got me a carry gun with some teeth. Second, it was an MR and there aren't many of them around. Third, I am a glutton for punishment and LOVE it when a rifle beats the crap out of me when I squeeze the trigger!!!

    Ok, Here you go.

About 5 years after our second child was born, my wife told me she'd decided she was good with two. She then suggested I get a vasectomy. Since I negotiate contracts for a living, this seemed like a golden opportunity. I told her to let me think about it- letting someone cut down there was not something to jump into. A couple weeks later, she brought it up again. I told her I had thought about it and I would agree on one condition- I could buy the gun of my choice with the reloading stuff I'd need without any push back. "If I'm shooting blanks with one gun I'll be firing live rounds with another." She said "Sounds fair." The next morning I called the urologist and the next night after work I picked up a new (2000) 1895M (ported), two boxes of 350gr JSP ammo, dies, 100 rounds of brass, ammo boxes, a couple boxes of bullets (R-P 300gr. JHP and 405gr. JSP), and a Lee 457-405 FB mold. I already had CCI-200 primers, H322, H335, IMR4198 and RL7 on the loading bench.

Doctor did a great job and it's one of the best deals I ever made!

I had a vasectomy 27 years ago, and I didn't even get a rifle for it.

Always liked the .450 Marlin especially in a takedown BLR. Recently found 1 NIB for a good price and went for it. Another .45 caliber for the collection which includes .45 Colt, .45-70, .458 Win. Mag. and .458 Lott.
