    Trapper Survival Carbine Must-Haves

I'm setting up my new Trapper as a (oversized) survival carbine and I'm keeping it pretty simple. I have a paracord sling coming and have done a lever wrap. No plans for optics right now but I'm wondering if you guys who run these guns in the field have suggestions. I thought about a ammo carrier on the stock but I don't want to expose it to severe weather and I found a bandoleer I like the looks of. What am I forgetting or lacking ?

Some have changed out the factory buck horn for a peep sights (depends on what works for you.)

Imo, a loaded bandoleer can get a little heavy on a long distance hike through the woods or trials. I prefer a ammo holder/wallet on my belt.

Yes, if you are not going with a scope then a good aperture(peep) sight. Agree with maki on ammo storage.

Gun came with Skinner ghost ring sights, I like them (after recoloring front to orange). The take down screw looks like a worthy add-on. The bandoleer was a grab n' go item mostly, but I see where longer carries could get uncomfortable. Flashlight mount maybe ?

Do people have any idea what a bandoleer or 45/70 weighs? Like the guys in spaghetti westerns that have two crossed. That stuff is fine for parades but no use in the bush.

    marlin39noa,

For sights: Front blade with gold bead. For rear, your choice of peep sight base that accepts the Williams eyecup thread pitch. For eyecup, the Williams twilight 3/8" OD with a larger aperture opening. The twilight eyecup has a gold outer band that makes for quick acquisition and centering of the front gold bead on top of the post.

Pappy it has a orange painted front sight blade and peep sight rear straight from Marlin. The Skinner sight has interchangeable eye cups and I'd have to be blind to miss seeing the front sight !

All suggestions are good. For various reason I guess I will stick with my Midget Magnum, Model 25MB.
