Yeah, not good, that's for sure. JPShooter introduced his cracked GBL on page 8.

Okay, heres a pic of mine. It's a Marlin, made in 1995. It shows the little "cutout", but no crack. Any comments will be appreciated.

Hard to tell from the size of the pic but doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary. The place to look for the crack is in the receiver under the barrel threads. In your pic it would be that "shiny" line at about 11 o'clock running downward and spanning the depth of the receiver. Make sense?

Looks good. The cracks that have been found extend down from that notch.

So let's put this in some perspective...Understand right up front, I'm pulling these numbers out of the air but maybe it will help underscore why I think this is an important issue.

We have ~40k members. So let's say of those, 5000 are "active", meaning they've logged on in the last 60 days or so.

Of those 5000 how many are 1895 owners? Let's say 1000 are, then of those 1000, how many have Remington-made guns? No I'm not trying to start a REP vs. JM thing here but all three guns so far are REP guns and I've never seen this kind of issue before on new, unabused guns. So we're down to what, say 300 folks for example. Now, of those, how many have read about this and actually checked? 50? 75?

So while three reports may seem like not so many, when you start to think about it, at least to me, it's fairly significant.

There are those who don't think this is a big concern, the cracks I mean and I honestly don't know just how much potential it would have to cause a catastrophic failure but I do know a couple things...

I've seen more than a couple pictures of Marlins with blown out receiver fronts and all have been 1895's. Yes, most likely all were overloaded but just saying it is a known "weak" point.

I know that guns are nothing more than contained explosions and that a 45-70 can be loaded pretty stout.

So for me, the idea of a crack in a the primary "vessel" meant to contain this explosion, especially in a spot that has been known to give in the past, concerns me.
