    1894 .44 magnum marked barrel?

I inherited a marlin that was taken apart by my friend that was a closet gunsmith . It is a 336 action from 1970 with a 444 lifter. Barrel was removed , shortened and a muzzle break fitted. Barrel is cut for the folding rear sight , and double barrel bands. Barrel is marked 1894 44magnum but chambered 444. The barrel dimensions are the same diameter as my 1968 444. This gun is in pieces and I am planning on putting it back together. Has anybody ever seen a 444 with an 1894 marked barrel?

    Yep.
Conversions with .44 Mag 1894 barrels are common. They're often easier to find than 444 barrels.
Same basic barrel. Same twist rate. Same sight mounting methods. Just a different chamber.

Several members here own examples of such.
At least one of our members - though he's gone silent after mentioning some health issues - had several that he had bought, and another 5-6 that he built himself.

The wretched refuse of your humid closet.
    Send me the partless, broken-stocked,
The Marlins in need of new life...

There's been a couple of threads discussing 444s with 1894 44 Rem Mag marked barrels that I could find, both of those are discussing a 1970 dated rifle as well.

    Glad to help.

I don't know why those older threads stick in my memory so well other than I like oddball things, but for some reason I really remember this pretty well.
