Just thought I'd share some pics of my latest acquisition, a pre-safety 444S. I saw this rifle some time ago and was captivated by the wood, something I'm not especially prone to since I can be hard on finishes. I don't know if this one will become a range queen or not. Only time will tell. I'm not sure the pics to justice to the wood grain.

And the best part of all is she shoots. Went to the range Saturday for testing. This is with my standard load: Speer 270gr FN, 46.5gr H4198, and WLR primers. Velocity is normally right at 2225 fps. I didn't break out the chrony on this day since I just wanted to know how it shot. Here is a typical 100 yard 3 shot target that measures right at 1".

Don't know the history other than I bought it via Gunsamerica from a guy in Illinois.

Sidespin - Sorry about the pic of your wife. She was over the other day and we were just fooling around with the camera......All in good, clean fun, of course!

    Oh, ok.

All kidding aside, my lovely wife is not that glitzy but she is a fine looking lady.

What kind of recoil pad is installed on your rifle? And I just noticed the Leupold VXIII, did it come on the rifle?

I don't really remember the brand name of the recoil pad, but I'll check it out when I get home tonight. The rifle only came with a 1 pc Weaver base, which I swapped out for the steel 2 pc style. I then stole the Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8 off my BLR so all three of my 444s wear the same scope. I'll have to round up another scope for the BLR eventually, I guess. I used engraved Millet rings to mount the scope.
