so far that powder has been doing the best in my short barrel Marlins... XLR’s seem to like Lever powder best

My M336C shoots groups like that at 185yds with H4895, BLC2, and LVR and either Rem 200gr CL, 200gr Sierra, or Hornady. Also 180gr Speer.
    Welcome to the club!
Of my more than a dozen Marlins, it’s the most accurate.

iirc, Buffalo Bore sells that load calling it the “Bear Buster”. At one point it was stated that they were using 40.0gr of H4895.
    I’d start lower at 38.0.
My experience is that the Speer bullets are a bit “hard” in the .35. However, if I lived where Moose or bear were on the menu, I’d strongly consider using the 220.
My current go-to load is the RCBS .358” 200gr FNGC, OVER 39.0gr of BLC2. It shoots under 2” at 100yds (5-shots!) and chrono’s 2,050fps. I cast it from 50/50 wheelweight and pure lead, with a touch of Leadfree solder added (tin/antimony). No where near a max load but rather an accuracy load. It has been bang-flop, or nearly so on everything I’ve shot with it.

I can’t warm up to the Speers as every deer I’ve shot with the 180’s have been lost, except for the one’s I’ve spined. Those showed little to no expansion.
In GOD we trust: all others are "suspects"!
