    Sighthood

I was given a 1953 336RC in .35 Rem with a Redfield peep sight installed. The front post has a small gold bead and is prone to getting damaged in the bush. Are sighthoods available and where would I get one (preferably in Canada)?

I see them on Ebay all the time. Figuring out which one you need will take some research.

My experience with the hoods has not been good. To me, they tend to shade the sight too much. As ar as being subject to damage, the bare post is really pretty tough and snag-free -- but the hood will snag on every twig and usually get dragged off and be lost in short order. The early guns like yours require the round hood, and you will discover they are not easy to find.

I'm thinking the '53 RC has the front sight dovetailed into the barrel? I know my '52 model does, therefore no provisions for a sight hood. I may be wrong but I don't think so.
    Take care,
    Rick

In the past ,I have gotten them direct from Marlin and I believe I also got some from Midway. Good luck. If you try Marlin, let us know how you make out.

    Re: Sighthood

Are we talking about the hood that slides into the groves on the ramp for the front sight or something else? If that 1953 336RC has a front sight blade that just fits into a dovetail on the barrel I don't know of a way to install a hood.

    Re: Sighthood

I bought a new old stock one for my '51 336A from this fellow on gunbroker - he has a bunch and has been selling them for a while over there. It arrived unblemished and wrapped in waxed paper.

I had it on for a short time but ended up taking it off, had to install a taller front sight post for the peep sight and there just wasn't much room at all in that sight hood. I ended up stashing it away with the original front and rear sights so I can restore the rifle to its original configuration if I ever want/need to.

    Re: Sighthood

Rickin tenn is a smart man. I have an RC from 1955 and it doesn"t have a hood. Duh probably because there is no way to attach it because it doesn't have a ramp sight. There are not only smart people on this sight but also people that are thinking.
