    New (G)RemLin 336BL

So I sold a couple of semi-autos recently as our current government here in Canada is looking at banning a bunch of things. My M1 Carbine was 99% likely to be going to a “prohibited” status, and even 10-22s are shrouded in uncertainty.

I replaced the M1 with a brand new 336BL. It’s primary roll will be short to moderate range deer hunting. I have yet to shoot it, but I stripped it down to nothing, and polished up all the moving parts, and lightened up the lever safety spring and the trigger spring and cleaned all the manufacturing debris out of it. I’m (using the “butt dyno”) at around 3 lbs on the trigger. Things are much smoother now.

My only complaint is that the rear dovetail is nowhere near straight. How the hell does this STILL happen? I swapped in the factory rear off my 1895GS and confirmed it is in fact the dovetail that’s crooked. I have a rail mounted, and 1-4x20 Nikon scope on the way, so it’s not a huge deal, but it is definitely a bit annoying.

Pics of it in the work tray, and disassembled.

I think it is ridiculous that Remington hasn't figured that out yet. When I go to Scheeels (a large sporting good store) there is only one out of maybe three or four remlins that I would even consider buying. I was recently looking at a ss 1895 that had a price tag of near $1000 that the front sight was off center and there was almost no contact on the recoil flats.

Looking forward to a range report.

Too light for Bourbon but since you said you are from north of the border my guess is Crown Royal?
Hope your 336 turns out OK. My recent 336W purchase seems good so far.

Famous Grouse scotch and soda. The way my pappy used to drink it. That was the unboxing night. The smithing was done with a whiskey sour. Kentucky bourbon in it. My wife has recently come to enjoy Woodford Reserve, but I’m a Bushmills drinker from way back. Irish whiskey just goes down so damn easy! I’ve never been too fond of rye. My brother owns a distillery though, so I may convert to the local stuff!

Install a RPP slot blank and you will not even notice it.

Responsible companies spend a lot of money on salaries for people to monitor QC and solicit and analyze customer feedback. Remington could log on here for free.

Sorry for your dovetail issues, but really sorry about the changing laws you're having to deal with. Same thing in the States.

BTW - I have a bunch of brothers. Not ONE owns a distillery. So, all is not lost in your world.

I have one of those installed on my 1895GS. I had one for my .357 Henry too, but it didn’t fit the barrel profile very well. Since this is primarily a hunting gun, I want to keep a rear sight on it in case I have an issue with the scope while in the bush. It’s still useable I think, just irritating that they are still sending out things with pretty obvious substandard fit and finish. I’m contemplating a Skinner dovetail peep, which it won’t show as much with, and will be better all around.

You can’t see the filler in this pic unless you look REALLY close, but you can see the Cloverleaf, and it’s just a nice Marlin shot...

Going down to pickup my Nikon in a few minutes, and just ordered one of Andy’s LoPro 2 peeps to put in the dovetail. I won’t notice the angle with the round peep!
