    1955 336 RC question

I know I am not the most knowledgeable person on this forum (or even in my own house for that matter) - that said, a friend of mine just picked up a rifle at a local pawn shop (great price) and to me, it's weird. So here is what he has.

It's a 336 RC with serial number starting with "M" (so 1955). It is NOT a waffle top - top is slick, and it is drilled and tapped (factory?). It does not have a hooded front sight and it's a smaller base without grooves to install the hood.

    Is this normal?

Sounds right to me. Both my A and SC from 1955 were D&T from the factory. I do believe the RC had a front sight that was dovetailed directly into the barrel and not the ramp type with a hood like the A and the SC. 1955 was a great year. Most were factory D&T and had Ballard rifling.

Yep, sounds right. I have one also. Drilled and tapped and with Ballard rifling. Mine was pretty rough when I got it but it's much better now. Top one in pic. It's taken four deer and a coyote in four years since I finished it.

Yeah, it is normal. My '55 336A 35 Rem has a slick topped factory D&Ted receiver with Ballard rifling and a dove tailed front sight .

Man, that is one great looking rifle, Randy. Is that duracoat & did you do it yourself or have it done?

I did all the work on the gun except for the cerekote. I cut it down to 18" , cleaned and polished all the metal & installed the Boyd's stock. I had a guy do the cerekote for me in tungsten grey with black accents. I think it turned out awesome and it is a real shooter with just about any bullet I've tried.
